His, Hers, Ours & Others-New Definition

Last year when I started this blog with the expressed purpose of using it as a place to tell a story of our life. I never dreamed that what will be posted now would be even more unique than what was intended.

As believers and Christians, we have always tried our best to be obedient to the mandates of the Bible, Gods Word.

We have defined the two children that we have adopted as "orphans". Since they were removed from their respective parents care by the state. To expand upon the idea of "caring for orphans and widows" as defined by the scriptures, we have now added a new dimension to the concept.

Over the last month or so, a long time friend of ours has been suffering through a loss. Her husband is gone and abandoned his responsibilities as a husband and a father. Because of this situation, we have opened our home to our friend and her children to stay with us. We have taken the attitude that this will be something permanent since our friend has some physical needs that are very important to keep a watchful eye on.

In light of this recent situation I have thought of the new definition of what the title of this blog means. The "Others" mentioned, not only means we have adopted "others" children. It also means that we have "others" in our home and there will be more of an opportunity to bring healing and wholeness to those who need it. With God's help, we will do all we can to help the widows and orphans in our home.

Transition

In the last few months we have tried two different drugs to help our child deal with the ADHD side of life. Both drugs have been unsuccessful and we have decided that using pharmaceuticals is not the solution the issues of life for our child. So I am on a quest to find an organic source to help with ADHD factors. The Truehope Supplements that our child is on has helped the mental illness (bi-polar) side of life. The goal is to find a means to help the whole family have a "normal" life.
If you have someone in your immediate family that has a mental illness, life is not normal. My goal is to find that element that will give all of the the "Normalcy" that we seek.

The Challenge

Over the last 6 months or so, we have been in a transition. We have completely removed the pharmaceuticals from our special needs child. she has been drug free for quite some time and we have been working on helping her to adjust to living a normal life. It is quite difficult to help when there isn't a cognitive ability to cope with life, but we are working on it. We have had this child on the high doses of vitamin B, amino acids and omega 3's. These nutritional supplements have helped her maintain a near normal level of mental and emotional responses. We have had her in a special education program with the public school system and this helps her learn new coping skills on a daily basis.

The new challenge is to now start a process of addressing her ADHD. We will begin using a product that will not require much to help her control her impulses. We hope that this will help her to be closer to normal as her other siblings.

I will keep you updated on this process, we hope that she will be able to transition during this change in her routine.

A New Beginning

During this holiday season I took a much needed rest. I enjoyed being with my wife and my children during this hectic season of family and holidays.

I have made new commitments to be a better Dad, Husband and employee. With every commitment, there is the element of time. Time to develop better and more lasting relationships with those who are nearest and dearest.

I would challenge any reader, to make a similar commitment to his family.

Holidays

During the holiday season, particularly Thanksgiving and Christmas, and knowing that it is coming to the end of another year. We need to take some time and look back to see what we have accomplished as a family. We have a special needs child in a special program for the child. We have other children plugging along with their school requirements. We need to slow down and make this holiday season, one that can be remembered for the rest of our lives and our children need to have these memories to pass on to their children. Let's all remember that we are here because of God's sovereign will and plan. God Bless

Ours and Others

Over the past several weeks there has been quite the stir in our home. The holidays are upon us and we have increased "busy-ness". This "busy-ness" has always added to the stress of the home, it requires more attention to be given to planning for festivities and to provide protection for those that are around our special children. We will be doing many things that will encourage change a venue for those in our home who do not cope well.
